Half day Utique & Bizerte

A partir de 45 € / per person - 1 jour(s)

Departure from Tunis . Our tour begins with the visit of the site of Utica the Roman Empire! The archaeological site is located in the governorate of Bizerte and constitutes the biggest archaeological site of this region.

Utique or "Utica" was a Carthaginian trading post founded by the Phoenicians three centuries before the foundation of Carthage. One cannot imagine that before the site was on the sea but the sea retreated (for a distance of 12km) and the city with its port lost importance. Only a few Punic tombs remain now. Then the Romans built a city on the same site. Around 36 B.C., the city received municipal rights under Octavian. Finally, it is promoted to the rank of Roman colony under Hadrian. The city is taken then by the Vandals in 439 and taken again by the Byzantines in 534.

The visit continues to discover the Punic vestiges, the Roman buildings... and especially to see the treasures exposed in its museum.

Continuation to Bizerte: The most European city of Tunisia, is like a well-kept secret only 60 kilometers north of Tunis.  Bizerte is an easy place to spend a day walking with a refreshing Italian ice cream in the old French streets, around the port and along the beautiful white sandy beaches.

Lunch in an original restaurant in the area.
