La Chambre Bleue Médina Tunis
La Chambre Bleue "The Blue Room" is a B&B located in the Historical Center (Medina) of Tunis, in the al-barrAny (independent apartment and upstairs, traditionally reserved for guests) of a historical residence.
It is a spacious room (about 40 m2), of Tunisian Italian style from the mid-19th century.
It includes a large room with a sitting area and sofa bed (possibility to install a desk), an alcove with a double bed, a closet and a bathroom.
Central heating and internet.
The house, is part of the former Agha Palace (named after Mustapha Agha, mamlouk -- ie slave, from Mustafa Pasha Bey who gave him his first name -- who became Minister of War), which was divided in the mid-19th century into three separate palaces, when Minister Mustafa Aga moved into what later became the Kram, or Kram Agha.
One of the three palaces, Dar Louzir, consisted of four interconnected modules, following a classical plan: the main house, on two levels around a large patio; the house for servants and kitchens; on the other side of Divan Street, stables and warehouses (makhazin); and finally an independent apartment for guests, built above the makhazin and Divan Street.
A last partition, at the turn of the 20th century, detached the guest apartment and the makhazin, which then formed Dar Belkadhi together, which was bought in 1996 by the Ben Miled family.
It is in one of the ceremonial rooms of this `aly, covered with blue ceramics, that this B&B was installed .
